My career in Yoga and Mat Pilates instruction has evolved to reflect changes in my own life over 25 years — from purely physical exercise for strength and flexibility to sharpening mental focus and emotional exploration and healing. Wherever you are in your life journey — or even daily mood — I can help you add the right tools to your kit.
“I'm a certified Yoga and Mat Pilates instructor with over 3,500 hours of teaching experience.”
I grew up in France and have trekked extensively through Europe, Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia, and North America. I have worked as a travel agent creating custom tours in Australia and the South Pacific, as well as an athletic tour guide leading bike treks in Napa and Sonoma Counties. As a Yoga and Mat Pilates teacher, I am still a tour guide — where the destination is you, opening new powers within your body, mind, or spirit, pointing you in a direction you might have overlooked before.
I was first exposed to yoga in the early 1980s, and took up Bikram Yoga when I moved to California in 1997 and later studied Iyengar with Clare Venet. For years, I used these primarily at physical exercise, but after a rough divorce, I started studying mind-body awareness, Ayurveda, meditation, and the other seven 'limbs' of Yoga beyond just asanas. I had suffered long-term neurological challenges after being nearly paralyzed by Guillain-Barré syndrome as a child — and I was delighted to discover improvements in focus and anxiousness. Then, as I was lying in savasana one day in a Kundalini Yoga class, I had a kind of epiphany: I had to become a teacher.
When I took my first teacher training in Integrative Yoga Therapy with Joseph Le Page, I started really understanding how the body, mind, and spirit are interconnected, and how to create a practice suited to each person's unique needs. From there I went to New Mexico for Kundalini Yoga teacher training with Harbhajan Singh (Yogi Bhajan), who gave me the name Sohan Kaur. I have studied with many wonderful teachers in India, including ashram in Rishikesh, silent meditation retreats, and exploring Tibetan Buddhism in McLeod Ganj (the residence of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, and the seat of the the Tibetan government-in-exile). And over ten years ago I brought my studies full-circle back to the physical with in-depth Mat Pilates certification, giving me the precise muscle-by-muscle awareness and control that complements, enhances, and completes traditional disciplines.
